Pussy Galore: Shaken, not stirred

The Casting of Honor Blackman as the, dare I say it, titillating Pussy Galore in the second Bond movie was genius.  Blackman was already a hit with British fans as Catherine Gale in The Avengers and her sultry looks were certain to win over the American audiences.  It was a crucial choice in establishing the James Bond franchise.

Honor is one of the oldest women to earn the title Bond Girl as she was thirty-nine at the time.  Diana Rigg her replacement on The Avengers would also go on to be a Bond Girl, she at age thirty.

The Pussy on screen was significantly more tame than the literary creation of Mr. Fleming.
"In the novel, Pussy Galore is the only woman in the United States known to be running an organised crime gang. Initially trapeze artists, her group of performing catwomen, "Pussy Galore and her Abrocats", is unsuccessful, and so the women train as cat burglars instead." - Wikipedia
"Her group evolves into an all-lesbian organisation, based in Harlem, known as the Cement Mixers. In the novel, she has black hair, pale skin, and (according to Bond) the only violet eyes that Bond has ever seen. She is in her thirties, her voice low and attractive. Pussy tells Bond that she became a lesbian after she was sexually abused by her uncle at the age of 12."
So, Stacy wasn't the first man to tangle with a organization of crazy lesbians!  At any rate, this explains Ms. Galore telling Bond that she's immune to his charms.

Blackman has a long list of acting credits sharing the screen with such luminaries as Orson Wells and Richard Burton.  Politically out spoken, Honor at 89 has had several roles in recent years.  She has certainly been one of the most memorable and long lived of all the Bond Girls.
